Unit 3: Connection With The Land

​

This unit gives some insights into special ways Orang Asli people feel a connection with the land they live and depend on. It is more than ownership.

 

Topic 1: My Land

 

A look at the unique bond the Orang Asli have with the land.

 

Topic 2: My Jungle

 

A look at the various plants which can be commonly found in the jungle and how the Orang Asli people make use of them.

 

Topic 3: My Water (Level One)

 

Students learn about the way the Orang Asli people find and use water from different sources.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Unit 2 : Traditional Way of Life  

 

This unit provides a snapshot of the traditional way of life of the Orang Asli people including food and handicrafts.

 

Topic 1: Weavers

 

One of the skills which makes the Orang Asli people unique is the way they weave palm fronds to make many of the things they need and also weaving for artistic, cultural and ceremonial reasons.

 

Topic 2: Hunters

 

Like most indigenous people the Orang Asli are expert hunters. This unit introduces some of their methods and activities in gathering all types of food from the jungle in which they make their homes.

 

Topic 3: Wood Carvers

 

Some tribes of Orang Asli such as the Mah Meri and Jah Hut people are wood carvers. This unit introduces their traditional craft.

Unit 1: Who Are The Orang Asli?​

 

This unit introduces the Orang Asli groups and tribes and helps the reader understand the background and ancient history of these people. It explains the similarities and differences between the three Orang Asli groups from the Malaysian Peninsula.

 

Topic 1: Three groups- One People

 

A brief introduction to the three groups of Orang Asli people in Peninsula Malaysia and their origins.

 

Topic 2: The Temuan People: The Orang Asli Farmers

 

The Temuan people are the group most represented outside rural areas in Malaysia and have for many years been the group who have been most settled and successful in farming and working the land. This unit explores the life of the Temuan people as an introduction to their culture and lifestyle.

 

Topic 3: The Mah Meri People ( Level One)

 

A brief introduction to the Mah Meri people with a grammar focus embedded in the target language as Ss discover the activities of this tribe.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 'Bridging The Gap'

 

A 10 unit curriculum plan each with a number of topics to be used in the English Classroon to teach all about the Orang Asli people of Peninsula Malaysia. This page gives you a sample of the material contained in it.
